Wiser about Department of neurology

Since the summer of 2015 we have established a tertiary referral center for patients with neurosarcoidosis. The diagnostic and treatment process can be confusing. Below you can find information concerning the routine on the outpatient clinic and during admissions.

Neurology outpatient clinic

At the outpatient clinic of neurology in the AMC there is a specialized outpatientclinic for patients who are suspected of or being treated for neurological manifestations of sarcoidosis; the neurosarcoidosis outpatient clinic. On this outpatient clinic you are initialy seen by Drs. Daan Fritz. This is a neurology resident who is involved in both patient care and scientific research concerning neurosarcoidosis. It can occur that a medical intern (a 'coassistent') sees you first to take a anamnesis and do a neurological examination. The medical intern will discuss his or her findings with the neurology resident who will repeat the neurological examination. The resident or Drs. Fritz is supervised by prof. dr. Diederik van de Beek or Dr. Matthijs Brouwer, who will (partly) repeat the neurological examination and discuss the next steps in the diagnostic process or treatment if necessary. On your follow-up appointments you will be seen by Drs. Fritz. You can find the neurology outpatient clinic in the outpatient clinic building on level A2. If necessary we can perform blood investigations, which will take place on the 'laboratorium bloedafname' on q0.

What kind of scientific research do we conduct in our center?

Admissions at the neurology ward

It can occur that you need to be admitted in the AMC. This can be done to perform certain ancillary investigations or to be treated with certain types of medication via an intravenous drip. Admissions occur on the ward 'Oogheelkunde en KNO' on H5 north or on the neurology ward on H6. During admissions you are either seen by Drs. Fritz or other neurology residents. It can also occur that a medical intern ('coassistent') sees you first to take a anamnesis and do a neurological examination. Admissions are always supervised by a neurologist. You will not alsways see the neurologist yourself during admission.

Tertiary referral center sarcoidosis AMC

We are a tertiary referral center for patients with sarcoidosis. Healthcare for patients with sarcoidosis can be complex. Our opinion is that because the disease is relatively rare, care for these patients with severe manifestations of the disease should be performed preferably in a few specialised hospitals. We want to improve Healthcare for these patients. Part of this is a specialist outpatient clinic for sarcoidosis patients with a multidisciplinary approach. Additionally we have started various scientific researchprojects, aimed at improving the diagnostic process and treatment of this disease. Below you can find more information concerning the pulmonary medicine department, who we are, what kind of research we are conducting and how you can refer patients to us.
